With great pleasure, the U.S.-Japan Bridging Foundation and AATJ are pleased to announce the opening of scholarship applications for study abroad in Japan. The Fall 2026 semester, the 2026–2027 academic year, or the Spring 2027 semester may be used as the study term. Note that there won't be a second, separate application deadline for scholarships in the spring of 2025. Scholarships for summer study programs in Japan are not awarded.

Eligibility for Bridging Scholarship Program:

  • Bridging Scholarship applications are open to undergraduates studying in any subject.
  • Studying the Japanese language is not required. Before and during their time studying abroad
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States and enrolled as students in an American institution or university.
  • They must study in Japan for at least three months to receive transferable credits to their US home campus.
  • Applications from students who have already started their study abroad program in Japan are not accepted.

Application process -

  • The applicants must also surpass all the requirements set by the university.

Application Deadline:

For study abroad in the 2026–2027 Academic Year, there will be one application deadline: March 15th, 2026. Students expecting to study abroad Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and the academic year 2026-2027 must apply by this date.

    Yes, you can secure an education loan to study abroad at American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ). Education loans are of two types- Collateral and non collateral. Collateral includes either: Immovable property – a house or a flat or land (or) liquid security – an FD, or LIC or shares or bonds. Agricultural lands are not accepted by any bank for education loan.
