Indigenous Student Success Program at University of Southern Queensland
In 2026, UniSQ will offer ISSP Education and Accommodation Costs scholarships to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students experiencing financial need. Applications are open in Trimesters 1, 2, and 3, with students able to receive each scholarship once per year. Scholarships cover study expenses and relocation costs.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicant must be a domestic student currently residing in Australia and an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- The applicant must be commencing or continuing studies at UniSQ in any undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program in the study period of application (e.g., Trimesters 1, 2, or 3 2025), be enrolled in a minimum of one study unit, and have a low-to-middle annual household income, with continuing students holding a GPA of at least 3.0.
- Accommodation Costs Scholarship applicants only: must have relocated from a regional or remote area to undertake on-campus study.
- Applicants cannot hold an ISSP Scholarship concurrently with certain Centrelink payments: Student Start Up Loan (Education Costs) or Relocation Scholarship (Accommodation Costs).
Selection Criteria:
- The applicant must provide evidence that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person of Australia and evidence of personal financial circumstances, which may include: Centrelink Income Support Statement indicating a regular payment; or
Proof of income (ATO Notice of Assessment for the most recent financial year and payslips for the past two months); and Concession, Healthcare, or Medicare card(s). If financially dependent on family/guardians, documentation of their income is required. - Accommodation Costs Scholarship applicants only: must provide evidence of having relocated from a regional or remote area at least 50 km to study on-campus, with extra consideration for those from more remote areas.
Application Process: Application must be made via the UniSQ Scholarships Online Application Management System.
Award:
- The scholarship(s) will be paid in a single instalment: AUD 4,000 for Study Period 1 (e.g., Trimester 1 2026) recipients and AUD 3,000 for Study Period 2 or 3 (e.g., Trimesters 2 or 3 2026) recipients.
- If a student is awarded both the Education Costs and Accommodation Costs Scholarships, each will be paid at the respective rate. For example, receiving both in Study Period 1 would total AUD 8,000 (AUD 4,000 each).
Note: If an applicant holds other UniSQ awarded scholarships, this may be taken into consideration in selection. Some scholarships cannot be held together.
